Hi, my name is Tom. I’m in my 20s, and I’m from the UK 🇬🇧.
This blog will go into some depth about my multi-faceted experiences living with both neurodivergency and mental illness, having been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, OCD and Bipolar Disorder (type ii), and of course it sometimes strays into open journaling, however, I am strongly driven to educate myself on psychology, therefore, consider this as much a place for me to compose my thoughts and reflect on my own learning about those problems that we suffer with.
It’s vital that you understand that I’m not making out that I’m an authoritative source, despite having consumed quite a lot of informative videos, read articles and having studied psychology in high school and now going on to take psychology and sociology A Levels remotely (if I can ever organise myself around actually doing them, haha). I’m simply somebody who has been in therapy for years, and is now undertaking psychoeducational DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and I do a little bit of learning in my spare time. Most of what I speak on is about lived experience, with a bit of a compulsive need to back it up with real science when possible, if that makes sense.
What I hope people reading the blog (that’s you) take away from it is a sense of accessibility to the lived experiences that may not be familiar, to help foster some understanding of what neurodivergent and mentally ill people have been through, how life can be different for them in the future, and what we know about that. The other thing which is equally important to me is that certain people read these posts and think “Thank god, I’m not the only one!”
I’m likely to write about a great many things, in exhaustive detail if I know myself, so whatever it is you want to find out about, I hope you find something relevant here.
